Best for Infants

For Infants who are rolling and sitting, and toddlers and preschoolers who still prefer to wear a Bag for sleep over a Suit.

What is a Premium Sleeping Bag?

The Premium Sleeping Bag (formerly known as the Sheeting Sleeping Bag) is our most premium sleeping bag for your little one. Made from luxurious 400-thread-count woven organic cotton, ergonomically designed with a wide fit, and stretch-inserts for movement and comfort during sleep. This bag is made to last year after year, child after child without compromising on comfort and fit.

Packaging may have either product name.

Materials & Care

Materials

Outer, Lining & Filling: 100% Organic Cotton

Side Panels: 95% Organic Cotton 5% Elastane

The Premium Sleeping Bag is made from and filled with Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton that is non-toxic and gentle on irritable skin. All ergoPouch fabrics are dyed with non-toxic water based dyes. The Premium Sleeping Bag is reviewed by the Eczema Association of Australasia (EAA) as a skin-friendly product.

Care

How to wash and dry your Premium Sleeping Bag

  • Gentle cold machine wash in mild detergent
  • Do not soak or bleach
  • Tumble dry low
  • Warm iron if required
  • Do not dry clean

When cared for properly, this product will last several years and can be used for more than one baby. Our TOGs don't lose their warmth ratings over time, but a gentle fluff up in the dryer on a low setting helps maintain the fibre's loft, allowing air to circulate more effectively.

For more information see our Washing & Drying Tips

How do I know if my child is ready for a sleeping bag?

A sleeping bag is suited to babies and infants who are out of the swaddling phase and arms-out sleeping, usually from around 3 months old. This transition is usually heralded by reaching the rolling mileston, and a noticeble decrease of their startle reflex (you may notice it gone altogether).

Your baby is still too young for loose blankets in their sleep space, and still requires a TOG-rated wearable blanket (i.e. a sleeping bag) for sleep. If you have a baby younger than this that is rolling, or a newborn who doesn’t like swaddling, our Cocoon Swaddle Bag is still the safest option for them to use, with the arm-poppers in the shoulders opened for arms-out sleeping. Your infant and toddler will continue to wear a TOG-rated sleeping bag until the big bed transition where they will blanket-train, between 2-3Y old.

How do I choose the right size sleeping bag?

This decision comes down to your child's sleep style preference, and their weight and height. Our Sleeping Bags cover 3-12 months, 8-24 months and 2-4 years and 4-6 years old. Please see our Size Guide for dimensions.

A sleeping bag should be fitted around the neck and the armholes to avoid your baby slipping through, or prevent them from pulling the material over their mouth and nose. The sleeping bag should be bell shaped from the hips down, to help prevent dysplasia of the hip joint, and to allow for easy leg movement.

Our general recommendation for your child's progression through our sleeping bag range is:

0-3M - Swaddled (arms in or out) with our Cocoon Swaddle Bag
3-12M - Transition to a Sleeping Bag, which has a similar slim-fit design and fabrication to our Cocoons.
12-24M - Choose between a wider fit Premium Sleeping Bag, or for active toddlers who move a lot during sleep, a Sleep Suit Bag. The Sleep Suit Bag is also versatile for use in a 5-point harness.
2-3Y - Continue with your toddlers preferred pouch (Premium Sleeping Bag or Sleep Suit Bag). Introduce a Toddler Pillow to help them learn to stay in one place during sleep.
3-4Y - Continue wearing a Sleep Suit Bag in 'legs' mode, or try a Sleep Onesie or 1.0 / 2.0 TOG PJ's for warmth under a blanket, while you blanket train and transition to a big bed.
4Y+ - Your big kid has graduated to sleeping with our TOG-rated Pyjama's and Convertible Quilt, congratulations!

Several of our Sleeping Bags & Suits come in sleeveless and sleeved versions in sizes from 3m+. As a general rule, choose sleeves when wearing in room temperatures below 21°C/70°F.

What is the difference between the Sleeping Bag and the Premium Sleeping Bag?

Our Sleeping Bag is an organic baby and toddler sleeping bag designed for arms-out sleepers (usually from around 3 months of age). The Sleeping Bag is made from organic cotton and elastane, similar to how a t-shirt feels. It has a slim-fit, stretchy design and is recommended as baby's 'first sleeping bag' after the swaddling phase is over.

Our Premium Sleeping Bag is a wider-fit premium baby and toddler sleeping bag designed for older infants (from 8+ months of age) and toddlers who prefer more room in their pouch. It is made with a 400 thread count woven organic cotton fabric that is non-stretch, similar to the sheet on your bed. It feels smooth and luxurious on baby’s skin. The ergonomically designed bag features a wide-fit and unique stretch jersey cotton inserts on the sides and shoulders to allow babies to move more freely and stay comfortable while they sleep. Parents have reported the Premium Sleeping Bag is harder-wearing and longer-lasting through washes, although both will give you several years of use.

Both pouches are safe for sleep, come in multiple TOG ratings with options for sleeves or sleeveless, and filled with 100% organic cotton.

What should my child wear under a Sleeping Bag?

This will vary from a nappy (or underwear for toilet-trained toddlers), through to Bodywear and/or a Layer/Pyjamas depending on the room temperature. Follow our Room Thermometer and What to Wear Guide (included in your packaging) to layer appropriately underneath, according to your room temperature and what TOG pouch you use. ergoPouch's under Layers are also TOG rated to help make dressing for sleep easy.

How many Sleeping Bags do I need?

We recommend two lighter TOG bags, and two warmer TOG bags to see you through day and night sleeping, depending on your room temperature. Having two in each TOG provides one for wear if one is in the wash.

Do I use blankets on top of the Sleeping Bag?

Our Sleeping Bags are TOG rated meaning they have an insulation grade making them warm enough to use for sleep without loose bedding, and are designed to replace blankets. It is recommended by safe sleep guidelines to sleep your child with their face and head uncovered in their cot, free from loose bedding, pillows and toys. Please follow our included What to Wear Guide for simple-to-follow instructions on how to layer underneath the sleeping bag, for warmth.

Why are there stretchy panels at the sides of your Premium Sleeping Bags?

We designed the ergonomic stretch panels for two reasons:
1. As a baby starts to wriggle, the stretch panels allow for comfortable movement and prevent them getting tangled in the non-stretch sheeting material.
2. The panels help with breathability, avoiding temperature variations and overheating.
