ergoExplorers Hug Me Blanket review - newborn

With so many products in the baby market for sleep, it may be hard to know what you need, you might find that when your baby arrives earthside they prefer not to be swaddled in a wrap or bag. This is precisely where the HugMe Blanket shines. It serves as a safer sleep alternative to traditional blankets, offering your baby the security they need while ensuring they stay safely tucked in their cot. This underrated product has been in the market for a few years, however, we’ve found that many new parents are still unfamiliar with its benefits, so we offered 4 newborn parents a chance to trial the HugMe Blanket over a few weeks. Here is their feedback:

*At the time of the questionnaire the HugMe Blanket was known as the Baby Tuck Sheet

Used with a swaddle and layer

"️This is a fabulous product that allows more flexibility for added warmth and security for my newborn. The fabric is soft and washes well. I have found that my daughter sleeps more soundly at night during the cold Melbourne temperature fluctuations."

Infant in Dragonflies layer and Daisy Sprinkle HugMe Blanket

Ashleigh⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Used with a swaddle and layer

"[The HugMe Blanket] is a must have for all parents and caregivers of a newborn. It’s awesome design allows for comfort and safety in newborn sleep, providing ease and peace of mind while in use. With multiple colours and patterns to choose from, your little one’s bassinet / cot / bedside sleeper will be looking modern and sophisticated in no time. Placing onto the mattress has never been easier, as it glides on like a pillow case. It has 2 different zip positions, for a slightly loose or tighter fit and it’s great to have the in built option of 0.2 tog and 1.0 tog (you pick your level of warmth and place that side upward on your mattress)

Securing your little one with the zip feature is great, and definitely provides a level of coziness, comfort, and ease for your little one to fall asleep and stay asleep."

Jenny ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Used with a swaddle

"[The HugMe Blanket] is extremely easy to use and convenient. I love that it has 0.2 tog rating that you can alternate between for the warmer days and cooler nights. As it is fitted to the mattress, it offers an extra piece of mind as I don’t have to worry about loose blankets. Also, my little one is a wiggler so having the tuck sheet also ensured that she didn’t startle herself as much as she normally would without the tuck sheet.

Even after a few washes it still feels soft and hasn’t got a wash fade."

"I love that the HugMe Blanket has the two tog ratings to switch between- it has helped my newborn have a snug warm bed while maintaining a safe sleep space for my baby. I've used the .2 tog side with a swaddle and it has been perfect for our room environment and assisting bub have longer stretches of sleep"

We often get a lot of questions about safety around using the HugMe Blanket, so we asked these triallers to describe the security of the product and how it compares to a traditional blanket.

"I felt it was a safer option I was more comfortable than using a blanket and tucking that in. It gave me increased peace of mind." - Madi

"I love the security of the [HugMe Blanket], it provided the ultimate level of ease and peace of mind, rather than stressing about a blanket becoming loose near my baby or have it riding up near his face." - Ashleigh

"I like that it's fixed and it can't be pulled up over baby's face and that it has a tight snug fitting without being too tight or restrictive for baby" - Lauren

"The tuck sheet is extremely secure. The only thing is it caused the edges of the mattress to curl in once zipped for the cozee breeze bassinet the sheet." - Jenny

Finally, would our triallers purchase this product for $44.95 (Bassinet size) if they were to have a newborn again

"Yes - I think it's a great investment and the fact it takes away from adding blankets which make the sleep space unsafe a game change" - Lauren

"Yes - Good quality, flexibility and peace of mind. I have recommended this product to many of my friends who have similar age newborns."- Madi

"Yes - It’s a fair price given its functionality and amount of use over the course of the months."- Ashleigh

"No - Personally if you dress your bub appropriately and use a sleeping bag i don’t think this product is a must have. With the cost of living these days i would rather use that money to get a sleeping bag which will potentially last longer and get more use out of then the tuck sheet." - Jenny
